Song of the Sky for harp and orchestra
The title of this concert work for solo harp and orchestra comes from a series of photographs by the American photographer Alfred Stieglitz (1864-1946). “Song of the Sky” is scored for single winds, percussion, harp solo, and strings. Throughout the composition the harp’s role alternates between guiding, or partnering with, the orchestra. The music itself suggested the changing beauty and character found in Stieglitz’s series of photographs.
Cello Concerto
This four-movement work is grounded in clear forms, rich harmonies, melodic interest, and a solo cello part that is both singing and virtuosic. It has been recorded for future release by Atanas Krastev, cello, with the Sofia Session Orchestra, Grigor Palikarov, conductor.
Concertino for two cellos & string orchestra
The Concertino for two cellos and string orchestra is an exciting piece in two movements that provides an excellent programming companion to Vivaldi’s Concerto in G Minor for Two Cellos, RV 531. Please view the wonderful video from Mexico City of just such a pairing.

An operatic soliloquy based on the life of the French sculptor Camille Claudel (1864-1943).

Summer, Uptown for alto saxophone & orchestra
“Summer, Uptown” looks to the diversity of jazz for its language, approach and character.
HoUsE miX for tuba and orchestra
In borrowing materials and gestures from the language of 1990s techno dance music, I also sought to borrow one of its structural conceits: the sharp juxtaposition of diverse materials (represented by the mash-up of upper- and lower-case letters in the title).
Ballade for piano and orchestra
“Ballade” was premiered 30 May 1987 at the Mannes College of Music by the New York Chamber Players, Yves Abel, conductor, with Deborah Jamini as soloist.
