Grand rights exist in all musical works that are performed in a “dramatic” setting, which may involve acting, dance, mime, narration, costumes, or scenery. The music may have been composed specifically for the stage (e.g., an opera), or an existing composition may be used in a dramatic setting (e.g., to accompany a dance performance).
Performances of such dramatico-musical works are not licensed by any performing rights organization and therefore need to be licensed directly from the composer or his representative.
