Tempus Fugit for tuba solo
Tempus Fugit (“time flies”) is a brief piece for solo tuba that unfolds in a clear ternary form. The principal figure of the opening section is a rhythmic motive; this is later blended with suggestions of a more melodic nature. The middle section provides a contrast by introducing longer note values in a consistently lower tessitura, before the return of the opening material. Tempus Fugit was written for tubist Jeffrey Funderburk and premiered by him at the University of Northern Iowa, 6 October 1988. Dr. Funderburk has recorded this work on his second solo CD, Journeys (Mark Records #3176).
Tempus fugit is published by Tuba-Euphonium Press and distributed by Cimarron Music Press.
